Since my husband and I have been going on various adventure runs, increasing the distances and challenges of the trails, we decided to run in a race. We chose the Garden of the Gods 10 mile run, and encourage all runners to try an event that challenges you.
This is an event held each year at the Garden of the Gods Park which raises money for the Friends of Garden of the Gods, that is used to maintain the trails though out the park. There is a 10k and 10 mile run. The courses offer breath taking views as the runners meander throughout the park. But make no mistake, it is a very hilly course which will challenge even the most well trained participants. The elevation ranges from 6210’ to 6530’ which repeats itself several times with a total elevation gain of over 1000 ft! The course was changed from the 2017 route, and started just outside the visitor center at Gateway Rd. and ended at the Rock Ledger Ranch.
I also want to take a moment to say “hats off”to the race coordinators who did a stellar job at getting all participants parked in a very efficient manner, and the water stations were set up so that runners had access to water or Gatorade every 1-2 miles.
It was a gorgeous day, and a memorable run. I hope anyone who wants to push themselves out of their running comfort zone, will consider this event! It is well worth it!
Sharing smiles and racing miles!
