In early September my husband, Ronnie and I stayed overnight at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott off Countyline Rd., in Highlands Ranch, CO. It is located just east of Quebec St. and north of W-470, south of Denver. The room and breakfast buffet were great, and it is convenient to major roads. The hotel has a small pool, fitness center, and a multi-use trail nearby.
The fitness center has two treadmills and an elliptical (True Fitness commercial models) which are quite heavy duty with several exercise program options and a panel to provide feedback on distances, speed, etc., and offer private TV screens with cable TV. Also, there are free weights, and a wt. bench. However, the fitness room was very small with only about a foot of space between the equipment, and the front of the equipment faces a blank wall. At best, only 4 people could work out at a time. This seems too small for a “fitness center” at a major hotel chain.
Instead of using the fitness center, we ran on the multi-use path with other runners, bicyclists, and walkers. The path is concrete and wide enough to allow trail users to pass each other easily. It is a long rolling path that extends from the I-25 highway westward for miles and miles. It is very close to the hotel with easy access, and as luck had it, we found a $10.00 bill in the process! Additionally, it is located to where one can access the Highline Canal Trail (another post coming soon!).
We ran 3 miles out and back. Unfortunately, that segment was under construction, and being close to 470, it was noisy due to traffic. When the construction is completed, it will be much better to run, bike, or walk on. Being so close to the hotel, it gives you opportunity to get a run in (or opt for the fitness center), when traveling. I would go there again, but mostly for the trail.
Sharing smiles and many miles!
